The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Saturday deployed about 60 personnel to control the razing wildfire in the Dzukou Valley on the Manipur-Nagaland border.

The wildfire is supposed to have begun on December 29 on the Nagaland side of the Dzukou valley.

Dry weather along with strong winds have aide the fire in spreading fast.

The Indian Air Force has also deployed three helicopters equipped with bambi buckets to douse the fire in the valley that is known for its diverse flora and fauna.

48 NDRF personnel were airlifted from Guwahati to Dimapur on Saturday.

Manipur chief minister, N Biren Singh took to twitter to thank Union home minister Amit Shah and DoNER minister Jitendra Singh for their response to the wildfire.

Amit Shah had assured the Manipur chief minister of all assistance from the centre to fight the raging wildfire in the valley.

“@NDRFHQ has now deployed 60 personnel at the wildfire site at Dzuko valley. Also 2 helicopters equipped with Bambi bucket have been deployed to fight the wildfire. Thanks to the men of action Shri. @AmitShah Ji and Shri. @DrJitendraSingh Ji for their prompt intervention,” tweeted N Biren Singh.

Singh has also requested the Indian army and Assam Rifles to extend their help in dousing the fire.

The Kohima forest division of Nagaland and the Southern Angami Youth Organization (SAYO) has also launched a major operation to contain the forest fire in the valley.

A 300-member team comprising of forest field staff, SAYO volunteers and personnel from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), district executive force (DEF), and 47th Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) reached the valley on December 31 to conduct the operation.
