The Dhubri Congress leaders and workers on Tuesday took out a cycle rally in protest against the abnormal rise in prices of petrol and diesel, and other essential commodities.

It was a part of the party’s statewide protest demanding measures to control the prices of fuel and essential commodities.

Dhubri District Congress Committee (DCC) president Uttam Sarkar along with other party workers started the rally from the party’s district office to the office of the Dhubri deputy commissioner.

Recalling the BJP’s protests when it was in the opposition, Sarkar said, “While the BJP was in the opposition, their leaders were busy to organise protest rallies and led massive protests across the county when the price of an LPG cylinder was Rs 400 and the fuel prices were above Rs 65.”

“Today, an LPG cylinder costs more than Rs 700 while the price of petrol has already crossed the Rs 85-mark, but the BJP-led governments at the Centre and state are totally silent over the skyrocketing prices of all essential commodities,” Sarkar said.

A delegation of the Dhubri Congress submitted a memorandum to the Assam Governor through the Dhubri deputy commissioner.
