An FIR has been lodged against Tripura BJP MLA Sudip Roy Barman for taking an initiative to install a statue of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in front of the Regional Cancer Centre of Agartala.
The case was filed by Dr. Gautam Majumder, the medical superintendent of the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre, Agartala.
It has been alleged that the medical superintendent filed the case against former health minister Sudip Roy Barman as directed by top leaders of Tripura BJP.
It was during the tenure of Sudip Roy Barman as the health minister of the state, the Agartala Regional Cancer centre was renamed as the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre, Agartala.
The initiative to install the statue of Vajpayee in front of the cancer centre has been taken by Sudip Roy Barman and some other MLAs, who are labelled as dissident BJP MLAs of Tripura.
Barman said they decided that the statue would be inaugurated on December 25, the birth anniversary of the former PM.
He said they invited the Tripura Governor as the chief guest and also invited chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb to attend the event.
The former minister said he personally sent an invitation letter to the chief minister and also tried to contact him at his mobile and official landline numbers, but the CM did not reply.
Barman said on Thursday, the decorators went to the cancer hospital to install the pandal but they were prevented from doing so by a team of police from NCC police station and the police seized all the items and arrested three of the decorators.
In the evening on Thursday, the medical superintendent filed a case at NCC police station against BJP MLA Barman.
Dr. Majumder in his FIR alleged that despite his attempt to convince MLA Barman to refrain from constructing the statue in the hospital premises as the property belongs to the state government and permission is required from the higher authorities, the construction did not stop.
“Time never goes same and one day everyone has to see the result of wrongdoings. This is not the first time an action is being taken against me,” MLA Braman said.
“But each time when I tried to do a good job, I was treated like this. From visiting Bhagat Singh COVID Centre to rescuing of the GB hospital’s patients from oxygen shortage, I was mistreated for my attempts to help the government.
“Instead of thanking us for our efforts, inquiries were ordered against us. Today, 3 decorators were arrested and then they got bails. An FIR has also been lodged against me,” Barman said.
Quoting Atal Bihari Vajpayee, MLA Sudip Roy Barman said, “A person cannot become big whose thinking is mean. Today, the conditions of the people across the state are very miserable. We are counting each of the insults and incidents.”
An internal conflict continues between BJP MLAs in Tripura.
A number of party MLAs recently started a campaign against chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb and the state BJP leadership.
On December 6 the supporters of the dissident camp raised slogan ‘Biplab Hatao BJP Bachao’ (Expel Biplab, Save BJP) at the Agartala state guest house in the presence of state BJP observer, Vinod Sonkar.
