Mumbai police on Tuesday arrested cricketer Suresh Raina and singer Guru Randhawa from the Dragonfly Club in the city’s Andheri area early for violating Covid-19 norms.

The police later released them on bail.

Raina and Randhawa were booked under Sections 188 (disobedience to order duty promulgated by public servant) and 269 (acts in a way that could spread an infection).

The police also served notices to a few female celebrities including interior designer Sussanne Khan, who were partying in the nightclub.

The police had raided the nightclub at 2:30 am on Tuesday and picked up 34 people, including seven staff members.

“During the raid, we found that the guests and those operating the club were not following Covid-19 protocols like wearing masks and maintaining social distance,” a report quoted senior inspector of Sahar Police Station, S Mane as saying.

The Maharashtra government on Monday imposed a night curfew in all the municipal areas of the state as a precautionary measure to keep Covid-19 infection under check in case the new strain of the virus emerging in the UK finds its way to India.

The curfew will be imposed from 11 pm to 6 am on Tuesday and will remain in force till January 5.

All shops, except pharmacies, will be shut down and no non-essential travel will be permitted during the curfew hours.
