This was stated by Chief Justice of India (CJI) SA Bobde in Aizawl, Mizoram.

Later in the day on Monday, CJI Bobde took part in an event – “Meet on Green Mizoram” at the Conference Hall of Mizoram Legislative Assembly.
Speaking at the event, Bobde said that the role of judiciary goes beyond that of merely responding to an environmental crisis; it has a significant responsibility in upholding the environmental rule of law.
Emphasising on the importance of preservation and conservation of the environment, the CJI said, “Environment is one issue that concerns every generations”.

He further said that understanding how the environment works and keeping it healthy requires knowledge and skills in many disciplines.
He said, “It is an interdisciplinary field that integrates subjects like biology, ecology, earth science, geography, atmospheric science, mathematics and many more.”
Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga, State Law Minister TJ Lalnuntluanga, two judges of the Gauhati High Court – Justice Michael Zothankhuma and Justice Nelson Sailo and other top NGO leaders in the State were also present at the event.
Speaking at the event, Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga said, “It is vital that environmental protection and economic growth go hand in hand in the march towards development.”
