Jorhat police on Tuesday arrested three persons on charges of burgling two shops selling motor parts at Gar-Ali in Assam’s Jorhat and attempting to break the vault of Gar-Ali branch of Indian Overseas Bank in the wee hours of Sunday.

The police arrested Ainuddin Hussain (20), Mohammed Sanidur Rahman alias Nasseer (20) and Alimuddin Ali alias Mangru (23) in connection to two cases registered at the Jorhat Police Station.

The cases were registered under Sections 457/380/511 of the Indian Penal Code.

Police sources said that the three accused persons wearing masks as per CCTV footage when they had broken the plyboard attached to a window on the first floor of the Agrasen Complex.

After entering the complex through the window, they broke the locks of the Indian Overseas Bank and tried to open the vault, but were unsuccessful.

Thereafter the thieves went down to the ground floor of the building and broke shutter locks of five shelves storing motor parts in two shops and reportedly stole Rs 15,000 in cash.

The police team swung into action and apprehended all the three accused within 24 hours of committing the crime

During initial interrogation all the three accused persons confessed their involvement in the theft, the source said.
