Unlike previous years, the devotees in Dibrugarh are getting ready to celebrate Chhath Puja in a unique way by performing puja in their own houses by digging small ponds.

The devotees have decided to adopt this alternative way of celebrating Chhath Puja as the Dibrugarh district administration has not given permission to perform puja in the Brahmaputra ghat owing to Covid19 protocols.

But this time the whole ghat has remained deserted.

“This year, we are performing puja in our homes. We have dug small ponds to perform puja and some of the people have made small pools with plastics and other materials,” said Jitendra Srivastav, a member of Kachari Ghat Chhat Puja Committee

“This year it will be a unique puja for restrictions being imposed due to Covid19 pandemic,” Srivastav added.

The people of Paltanbazar, Grambazar, Maijan and other areas of Dibrugarh have geared up for the festival.

The people of PN Road, Santipara have created small pools in their areas to perform puja.

“We are happy because we are celebrating Chhath puja with our society members. Everybody in our society will perform puja. This time it will be different from previous years. We will pray to God for an early end to the Covid19 pandemic,” said a member of a puja committee.
