Mizoram’s Covid-19 situation worsens with 32 more people testing positive for the novel coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

These new cases include 16 policemen.

The recent spike in Covid-19 cases has compelled the state government to extend the lockdown in the state till November 30.

The government had imposed the “Covid-19 No Tolerance Drive” lockdown in the state on October 26 to curtail the rapidly spreading infection.

The total number of positive cases has now reached 3513 in the state.

According to a health official, eight of the 16 police personnel belonged to the 1st Indian Reserve Battalion of Mizoram police, who had recently returned from Bihar after election duty.

The total number of active cases is 487 and 3,021 people have recovered from the virus.

Five people have succumbed to the disease in the state.
