Chirang Police during an operation arrested a total of four drug peddlers and seized a consignment of drugs from their possession on Wednesday.
“Based on specific input, the Chirang Police launched an operation against an organised drugs trafficking from 4 pm on Wednesday,” said police.
The Chirang Police’s operation team was led by Prakash Medhi, the additional superintendent of police (headquarters), and the circle inspector of Runikhata in the Bengtol area under Runikhata police station.
“During the operation, one Maruti Omni vehicle bearing registration No AS-19A-1554 was intercepted,” police said.
During search, three persons, suspected to be drug peddlers, were apprehended by the team.
The apprehended persons have been identified as 22-year-old Sanjay Rai, son of Rajkumar Rai of Dadgiri village, Hatisar under Runikhata PS in Chirang district; 19-year-old Amit Biswas, son of late Sunil Biswas of the same village and 22-year-old Sangit Pradhan, son of Purna Bahadur Pradhan of the same village.
During search in presence of the independent witnesses, the police team recovered 89 strips of SPSPHEN tablets having 2,136 tablets, one mobile handset, Indian currency notes of Rs 1,900 and Bhutanese currency notes of 14,630.
One person, who tried to escape while the vehicle was chased, was also apprehended.
He has been identified as 18-year-old Kanhaiya Bashfor, son of Dinonath Bashfor of Dadhiri village under Runikhata police station.
“Further follow-up legal action is being taken,” the police said.
