Assam’s Rajya Sabha MP, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa has accused the opposition of fomenting unrest in the state and the rest of the country over the farm bills passed last month in the Parliament.
Speaking to newspersons at the Jorhat district BJP office here on Saturday, Tasa said the opposition parties were spreading misinformation about the farm bills which were meant to benefit the farmers.
Tasa charged the opposition parties of spreading false information regarding the farm bills following which there had been country-wide protests by farmers, political parties and various organizations opposing the bills.
The protests had erupted after the said bills were termed as anti-farmer by the farmers, opposition parties and other organizations.

Tasa said the farm bills – the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 (FPTC), the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 (FAPAFS) and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill, 2020 – are pro-farmer and would benefit the farmers a lot.
“These parties had always talked about farmers but had never done anything to ameliorate the condition of poor farmers while being in power. Our government, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has brought laws that will actually benefit the farmers,” Tasa stated.
Claiming that the new laws will do away with all the bottlenecks that the farmers used to face in selling their produce before the enactment of the laws, Tasa said following the passing of the bills in the Parliament, the farmers would be enabled to openly carry out trade of agricultural products.
Tasa stressed that the news farm laws would not allow operating of any kind of syndicates in the agricultural products trade.
He alleged that the opposition parties were worried over doing away with the prevailing system of syndicates operating in different agricultural trade.
Hinting at a nexus between the opposition parties and the syndicates, Tasa said the parties were “apprehensive that they would lose” after enactment of the new farm laws as syndicates will not be able to flourish.
He further charged the opposition parties of trying to create unrest across the country including Assam by staging protests against the passing of the farm bills by the Parliament.
Replying to a question, Tasa said farmers of Assam too would be benefitted largely by the new farm laws as crops like Joha and Bora rice, lemons, small potatoes, etc. could be now be sold by farmers outside the state as the syndicate and vested lobbies would cease to operate with the passing of the laws.
