Dr Ratan Kumar Kotoky, the former principal of Assam Medical College (AMC) in Dibrugarh succumbed to Covid-19 on Monday morning.
On September 15, the 67-year old Kotoky was admitted to the AMCH after he tested positive for novel Coronavirus.
He was later shifted to the ICU of the hospital after his health condition deteriorated.
Kotokey served as the principal of AMC in 2016. His death was condoled by people from all spectrums of life.
“Prof Dr Ratan Kumar Kotokey (ex-principal of AMC) succumbed to Covid-19 this morning. Assam has lost a great physician. May his soul rest in peace,” Dibrugarh MLA Prasanta Phukan said in a condolence message.
Few days ago, Dr P.K Dam of Dibrugarh died due to Covid-19 at AMCH. His family members were also infected by the virus.
Meanwhile, the number of Covid-19 cases in Dibrugarh district continues to rise. Till September 27, as many as 11,505 persons from the district have tested positive for the novel coronavirus out of which 73 patients have died.
Till Sunday 128,790 samples have been tested and 11,505 people have tested positive for the virus.
The recovery rate stands at 86.91%. Altogether 9,999 patients in the district have recovered from the virus while 1,433 cases are active. The mortality rate is 0.63% with 73 deaths.
