Manipur on Tuesday recorded the highest single-day spike of 270 positive cases, pushing the state’s total COVID19 tally to 9,280.

With the demise of one more male patient in the last 24 hours, the COVID19 death toll in Manipur climbed to 60, according to an official press release.

The new COVID19 positive cases were confirmed at various testing facilities in the state, said the press release issued by the state health department.

The new cases from the general population are from 12 districts of the state, the release said.

Nine persons out of the general population are returnees from other states while the rest 205 are locals without any significant travel history, it said.

The patients are being shifted to COVID care facilities.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it added.

One 82-year-old male patient from Imphal West district expired at JNIMS due to COVID19 and other co-morbid conditions in the last 24 hours, it said.

Meanwhile, 49 persons were discharged from various COVID care facilities in the state in the last 24 hours, it added.

The cumulative number of positive cases is 9,280 while the numbers of active and recovered cases are 2,333 and 6,887 respectively, it added.

The recovery rate stands at 74.21%.

The health department appealed to the public to self-isolate and contact the COVID control room or chief medical officer for testing if anyone has come in contact with any positive person.
