Confirming it, sources in the hospital said that the veteran politician was being treated in the ICU.

“A team of doctors is monitoring his health and we cannot say beyond it,” said a party source while speaking to Northeast Now.

The former CM was the youngest CM of any Indian state when he donned the CM’s hat at the age of 33 in 1985, riding high on the back of the Assam Agitation.

From 1985 to 1990 Mahanta represented the Nowgong Sadar Assembly Constituency and since 1991 he has been representing the Barhampur Legislative Assembly council in Nagaon district.
