A 9-member committee of doctors has been formed to monitor the health status of former Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi, who has tested COVID19 positive on Wednesday.

The 85-year-old former chief minister has been shifted to a new paying cabin in Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) keeping in view of his age.

“A committee under the chairmanship of Dr Jogesh Sarma, HOD, Pulmonary Medicine Department of GMCH has been constituted to monitor the health status of Sri @tarun_gogoi, former Chief Minister of Assam,” health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted.

“He was tested positive for #COVID19 and is presently admitted at GMCH,” he added.

An order issued by the office of the superintendent of GMCH said: “In view of former Assam Chief Minister Sri Tarun Gogoi becoming COVID -19 positive, he is advised to be shifted to New Paying Cabin and the following doctors of Gauhati Medical College Hospital will be responsible for continuous monitoring of his health status.”

“D. Bhaskar Thakuria, Assistant Prof of Medicine is requested to submit his medical status report every day at 5.00 PM,” said the order.

The 9-member doctors’ committee includes Dr. Jogesh Sarma, Prof & HoD of Pulmonary Medicine; Dr. Uma Kaimal Saikia, Associate Prof of Endocrinology; Dr. Farhin lqbal, Associate Prof of Cardiology; Dr. Bhaskar Thakuria, Assistant Prof of Medicine and Dr. R. Das, Assistant Prof of Surgery.

The other doctors are Dr. Biswajit Talukdar, Registrar of Anaesthesiology; Dr. Jayshri Medhi, Post PG of Medicine; Dr. Moinul Islam, Resident doctor of Medicine and Dr. Bubu Gogoi, Resident doctor of Medicine.
