In their continued drive against cattle smugglers in the district, Dhubri Police have arrested four cattle smugglers in the district on Wednesday.

Dhubri Police also seized cash amount of over Rs 2.5 lakh along with other objectionable documents on Wednesday.

All the four cattle smugglers were caught from Dhubri town during a naka checking.

“Initial investigation suggests that all the four arrested people are involved in cattle smuggling,” said police.

All the arrested persons are residents of Goalpara district.

They have been identified Hasen Ali, 32, son of Jahar Ali from Khankhowachar part II village; Shahjamal, 19, son of Hasen Ali from Noonkhowapara Part-I village; Nazrul Hoque, 28, son of Hanif Ali from Ramharichar Part-3 village.

The villages of these three arrested persons fall under Pancharatna police station.

The fourth cattle smuggler has been identified as Mominul Hoque, 35, son of Abdul Bari from Joypur (Rowmari) village under Baguwan police station.

Police recovered a sum of Rs 2,31,300, four mobile handsets, one Indigo car bearing  registration no AS-17-E 9662 in which they were travelling and seized the same accordingly.

The Dhubri and South Salmara Mankachar districts bordering the Indo-Bangladesh border are being used as favourite transit route for smuggling of cattle bought from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

However, police have started a massive crackdown on cattle syndicate throughout the district under the guidance and the directive of newly appointed superintendent of police of Dhubri, Anand Mishra.

Eight suspected cattle smugglers have so far been arrested by Dhubri Police in the last couple of days.
