Even though the Tripura government extended the statewide lockdown by five days to curb the spread of coronavirus in the state, however, it turned out to be meaningless as people defied the lockdown and carried on with their day-to-day activities like before.

From Thursday till August 5, the Tripura government decided to extend the previously declared three-day lockdown by another five days.

However, no one was seen following the lockdown seriously as maximum shops and market areas were open and people thronged in large number to buy their essentials.

People were seen plying their two and three-wheelers openly as police stood just being an audience.

Meanwhile, Communist Party of India- Marxist or CPI (M) and the Congress strongly criticized the state government for extending the lockdown.

In a statement, the CPI (M) said, “The lockdown would create more problems for the common people.”

“This is an unscientific lockdown,” the CPI (M) added.

Meanwhile, Congress also lashed out at the state government for extending the lockdown.

“The government should have given some time to prepare as extending the lockdown without any intimation will only create panic among the people,” the Congress added.
