Ahead of the celebration of Idd Uz Zoha, the holy festival of the Muslims, the deputy commissioner of Assam’s Darrrang, Dilip Kumar Borah has made an appeal to the community of the district to refrain from community prayer.

Close on the heels of recent spike in COVID-19 positive cases in the district, the deputy commissioner on Tuesday chaired a meeting with the office bearers of the local Iddgah committees and discussed about abstaining from mass gathering during festival and most importantly community prayer in the ensuing festival.

He appealed to the Muslim religious leaders to spread the message to avoid community prayer and perform prayer only at home.

He pointed out that during this time of COVID-19 pandemic situation, good health is more important than mass celebration of festival.

The deputy commissioner also requested the religious leaders present in the meeting to perform prayer in each of the mosques in presence of only three religious persons.

The community leaders also agreed to the deputy commissioner’s appeal and assured their full cooperation.

The meeting in the deputy commissioner’s conference hall was also attended by additional deputy commissioners, circle officers and district public relation officer among others.
