Two former NDFB (P) cadres, belonging to the Dhiren Boro faction, have been arrested by Kokrajhar police in connection with a kidnapping case.

The arrested former rebels have been identified as 23-year-old Mahanta Narzary, son of Anus Narzary, a resident of Bitini in Amteka area under Chirang’s Amguri police station, and 20-year-old Rijoy Swargiary, son of late Khawla Swargiary from Daifang in Udalguri.

This has been confirmed by the Kokrajhar superintendent of police, Rakesh Roushan.

Talking to the media, Roushan said, “On July 23, 2020, based on a source input regarding an attempt by unknown miscreants to kidnap a person from Tipkai outpost area under Bogribari PS, a trap was laid by police.”

The operation was led by the deputy superintendent of police (HQ), officer-in-charge of Bogribari PS, the in-charge of Tipkai outpost, and other staff in and around Tipkai market area, the SP said.

“Police personnel in civil dress were placed in and around the market area,” he added.

Roushan said, “At around 7:30 am, two suspected individuals on a bike were seen roaming in the market.”

The police personnel deployed in the area stopped them and after a thorough search, one factory-made 7.65 mm pistol along with one magazine and one live bullet was recovered from their possession, the IPS officer said.

The SP said, “On spot interrogation, the two were identified as Mahanta Narzary, 23, from Bitini under Amguri PS in Chirang district and Rijoy Swargiary, 20, from Daifang in Udalguri district.”

“Both were former NDFB(P) cadres, belonging to the Dhiren Boro group. They were staying at Chirang,” the Kokrajhar police boss said.
