A complaint has been lodged against a doctor, who was playing futsal game before he tested positive for COVID-19 patients, and staffers of two private hospitals in Aizawl for allegedly defying lockdown rules and failing to respect safety protocol, police said on Thursday.

Vanramchhuangi alias Ruatfela Nu, a well known social activist filed FIR at Bawngkawn police station on Thursday after a section of media exposed that the doctor, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday night, was playing futsal game along with staffers of City hospital and Grace Nursing Home and Research Centre in Aizawl on that night, police said.

In her complaint, Vanramchhuangi alleged that the doctor was working at ZMC and was dealing with COVID-19 patients and sample collection before he tested positive.

He was waiting for his swab test result while he was playing futsal game at Aizawl’s Durtlang Leitan locality around 7 pm on Monday, she said.

She accused the doctor of acting in unscrupulously manner to spread the deadly virus and endangering the safety of others for which complete lockdown has to be imposed in a neighbourhood.

According to the activist, the government’s order issued on June 30 has prohibited any sports activities with more than 25 people, social events and also imposed night curfew after 7 pm.

She demanded legal action against the doctor and staffers of City hospital and Grace Nursing Home and Research Centre for defying lockdown rules and failing to maintain safety protocol.

She also demanded action against the administration of the two hospitals for allowing their staff to organise sports events despite curfew and disrespecting the government order.

On Thursday, the state government served a show cause notice to the doctor and asked him to clarify why he stepped outside at a time when he should maintain self isolation.

Meanwhile, Grace Nursing Home and Research Centre managing director Johny Zahmingthanga denied that the sports event was organized by the administration.

He said that staffers of the two hospitals held a friendly match on their own and invited the doctor as he had once worked at Grace Nursing Home and Research Centre.
