Arunachal Pradesh’ Itanagar Capital Region deputy commissioner Komkar Dulom on Monday emphasized on the need for greater coordination and cooperation amongst the stakeholders to tackle natural disasters in a collective manner.

Addressing a review meeting on monsoon preparedness at his office in Itanagar, the deputy commissioner said, “Though the entire world is currently gripped with the coronavirus pandemic, we must keep our spirits high and be prepared to face the challenges.”

Natural disasters are unpredictable and inevitable, therefore proper measures and practices should be adopted while combating them, he said.

During the meeting, the deputy commissioner reviewed the works of line departments like public works, PHE, electrical etc and asked them to work in coordination.

He also asked the officers concerned to submit damage reports on a daily basis and document all damages properly.

Measures to prevent or reduce the actual damage from natural disasters were also shared and deliberated upon.

The deputy commissioner further appealed to the people living in vulnerable areas to move to safer locations or relief camps set up at Government Higher Secondary School, Kankernallah and Gyan Ganga Vidyapeeth in Itanagar by the administration.

District disaster management officer Moromi Dodum Sonam urged the denizens of the capital to call the toll free number 1077 or 878-7336331, 9436415828 of the district emergency operating centre in case of any emergencies.

Among others, additional district magistrate Talo Potom, additional deputy commissioner Talom Dupak and heads of the departments concerned attended the meeting.
