Paris is organizing a unique floating theatre experience for its residents on July 18 next.

Movie enthusiasts would be able to watch a movie in boats maintaining social distancing.

The floating movie theatre will be staged on the river Seine, according to reports.

Christened ‘Le Cinéma sur l’Eau’ (The cinema on the water) will be held to celebrate the starting of Paris Plages.

Paris Plages is an annual city-run programme in which temporary artificial beaches are created every summer along the river Seine in the centre of Paris.

Movie enthusiasts will be able to enjoy the screening of the film from 38 electric boats.

Each boat can hold two to six people.

Social distancing practice will be adhered to ensure that those on board are family or friends.

Locals can buy raffle tickets for the boat seats till July 15.

The winners of the seats will be chosen by a draw and will be notified via email.

To complete the experience of the cinema, another group of 150 people will watch the movie from deckchairs placed on dry land on a first-come, first-served basis.

The locals will watch Gilles Lellouche’s film Le Grand Bain, a 2018 French comedy-drama about a group of men who start a synchronized swimming team.

The event is in collaboration with Häagen-Dazs and Mk2.

Movie theatres in France were allowed to reopen in late June at 50 per cent capacity after they were closed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
