Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh informed the ongoing Assembly that the Anti-Corruption & Vigilance Department have registered a total of 835 cases in the past five years. Under the Anti Corruption Cell, 354 cases were registered and 481 cases under the Vigilance Wing, Biren informed the House on Wednesday.
Since January, 2013, 307 cases were disposed after inquiry by Anti Corruption Cell and 353 cases disposed after inquiry by Vigilance Wing, out of which 18 are FIRs, three charge sheeted and one returned in final report,
Biren said this while replying to a question by opposition MLA Kh Joykishan on the 13th day of the fourth session of the Manipur Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.
On the status of complaints/cases filed, he said that, there are 47 cases pending with Anti Corruption Cell while 128 cases with the Vigilance Wing.
In the last five years against the cases registered by Anti-Corruption Cell and Vigilance Department, he said one conviction has taken place.
Biren who is also the Leader of the House said two IRB (Indian Reserve Battalion) posts were opened besides conducting combing operations at two villages – Aimol Ngairong and Molnom Kuki to protect the identity and safeguard the minority community of the State against the forced assimilation.
Chief Minister Biren who also holds the Home portfolio replying to another question said fifteen ex-ministers/ex-MLAs and thirteen non-government officials are provided security (guard & escort) based on threat assessed by State Level Security Review Committee and also Central agencies as on February 17, 2018 under State list. Two individuals under Central list have been provided security while one has security cover as per Supreme Court directive (July 18, 2017).
Responding to a question raised by D Korungthang, Tribal Affairs and Hills Minister, N Kayisii said that post matric scholarship for the year 2016-17 for the students studying outside Manipur has been released to some students but for majority of students the stipend is yet to be released.
He also added that the reason for non-disbursement of the post matric scholarship to the scheduled tribe students studying outside the State is due to inadequate fund release by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
