The total number of COVID-19 cases in Manipur has increased to 1234 with the detection of seven new cases on Tuesday.

In the last 24 hours, seven persons (five male and two female) were confirmed as new COVID 19 positive cases from the Virus Research & Diagnosis Laboratory (VRDL) of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences.

This was stated in a Health department press release.

They are from the districts of Bishnupur, Imphal East, Kangpokpi and Senapati.

All are returnees from other states.

They are being shifted to the COVID Care Facilities, it added.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place.

Meanwhile, in the last 24 hours, 59 persons were discharged from COVID care centres of Meitram (5), Ukhrul (19), Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (2), JNIMS (24) and District hospital Churachandpur (9) after they were found COVID-19 free on a Real Time PCR test, it added.

The cumulative number of positive cases is 1234.

The number of active and recovered cases is 681 and 553 respectively.

The recovery rate is 44.81 per cent.

As on Wednesday, 50,994 were tested for Covid-19, another official source added.

Altogether 7,110 inmates were staying at quarantine centres including paid quarantine centres while 45,486 others completed quarantine.

On the other hand as part of the ongoing drive on violators of lockdown,not wearing face masks in public and not maintaining social distancing to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the Manipur Police have detained 564 persons and released later after warning, said Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) L Kailun in a press release.

Further 328 vehicles were detained and altogether fined a sum of Rs 66,350 only as per law.

Police have warned those who violate the lockdown to face strong legal action under National disaster management Act 2005 and other appropriate laws.
