A team of doctors in West Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh removed a barbed fishing hook from the eye of a nine-year-old boy on Tuesday.

The fishing hook caught his eye accidentally.

Officials said the hook was removed following a long and complex surgery carried out by the doctors at the general hospital in Aalo, the district headquarters of West Siang.

The boy was initially brought to the out-patient department (OPD) after which, Dr T Paser, on being informed immediately asked the patient to be shifted to the operation theatre.

There he was given general anaesthesia and Dr Hage Manya, an eye specialist carried out the complex surgery, officials said.

Dr Manya said that there are possibilities that the kid may lose vision in the affected eye as the injury was intense and has caused retinal damage.
