Assam reported 198 fresh COVID-19 positive cases on Sunday night, taking the total number of cases in the state to 5,586, health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
A total of least 202 patients were discharged on Sunday after they tested negative twice for COVID-19.

Of the 202 discharged patients, 44 are from Kamrup (Metro) district, Sarma said.

Assam currently has 2,170 active patients. A total of 3,404 people have recovered, nine succumbed to the disease, and three others have migrated.
The state had been witnessing a surge in COVID-19 cases since travel restrictions were lifted on May 4. Prior to that, it had only 42 coronavirus cases
