Assam’s Dhemaji is on the boil over the killing of Rituparna Pegu (26) in Guwahati on Friday.
Deceased Rituparna was a native of Akajan (Silapathar) village in Dhemaji district, who was stabbed to death in broad daylight with sharp weapons by a gang of five persons.
A pall of gloom has descended at Okajan, the deceased’s native village after the message of his death was circulated through social media.
Many students’ union and community organization leaders have visited the village and assured the victim’s family of help to move for justice.

The incident that took place in the state capital has evoked reactions among different sections of people in Dhemaji district.
Various organizations including Jonai District Tribal Sangha, Dhemaji district units of All Mising Students Union (TMPK), Mising Mimak Kebang and Takam Mising Mime Kebang (Woman), Mising Justice Forum, Mising Artist Association, Krishak Mukti Sangram Somiti and others have vehemently condemned the murder.
They opined that the killing on such a petty issue is not tolerable for the civil society members.
The people have demanded the law-enforcing authorities to expedite the trial of the case in ‘Fast Track Court’ and award the killers exemplary punishment.
The TMPK central committee president Raj Kumar Morang in a statement said his organization would stage a protest in every district headquarter from Monday to pressurize the State Government for conducting the trial in ‘Fast Track Court’ and ensure justice to the victim’s family.
