Garchuk police in Guwahati on Sunday have arrested 6 persons in connection with the killing of a leopard in Katahbari Pahar.
Confirming the news, Assam Police on its Twitter handle said there is also one juvenile among the 6 apprehended by the police in connection with the killing.
Police said a case has been registered at the Gorchuk police station (Case No 315/2020).
An investigation is on to nab the others involved in the killing.
“Acting swiftly, @GuwahatiPol arrested 6 people, including a juvenile for the killing of a Leopard that took place today at Katahbari Pahar. Gorchuk PS Case No 315/2020 has been registered and investigation is on to apprehend others involved,” Assam Police tweeted.

The details about the arrested persons are yet to be known.
The leopard was killed by the villagers of Katahbari area in the city in the morning on Sunday.

The villagers claimed the leopard had been creating terror in the area for the last several days.
The locals laid a trap and killed the leopard in the morning.
The incident was widely condemned after videos on the villagers parading with the carcass of the leopard went viral on social media.
Similar incidents were reported earlier in different parts of Assam.
A forest official said, “Leopards come out of the forest in search of food and enter human habitation.”
The forest official also said the department has been trying to create awareness among the villagers about the importance of leopards in the eco-system.
The official said the forest department has been persuading the villagers to avoid killing the leopard.
