Human beings again exhibited their barbaric nature in Guwahati on Sunday.
The villagers of Katahbari area in the city killed a leopard on Sunday morning.
According to the villagers, the leopard has been creating terror in the area for the past several days.
The local residents laid a trap and killed the leopard early morning.
Similar incidents of human beings killing animals have become a common practice in recent times in Assam.
The man-animal conflict has been rising rapidly because of the shrinking of forest cover.
“Leopards come out of the forest in search of food and enter human habitation,” said a forest official.
The Forest official further opined that the department has been trying to create awareness among the villagers about the importance of leopards in the eco-system.
The official said the Forest department has been persuading the villagers to avoid killing the leopard.
Meanwhile, Gorchuk police have detained 7 persons this connection.
However, the identities of the arrested persons are not known immediately.
