After COVID-19 lockdown was relaxed in Dhubri district along with rest of Assam and country, the administration has allowed most of the shops of the district to function.
This, however, attracted unwanted crowd and it has been seen that many of these shops are violating the prescribed norms of social distancing inside and outside their shops.

Taking serious note on this, the Dhubri Police have taken up cases against ten such shops, which has been registered at Dhubri Police station bearing case No 652/2020, 642/2020 and 643/2020 under sections 269 (Negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) and 270 (Malignant act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life) of IPC.
Police informed that these cases against the proprietors of the shops have been taken up due to the violation of social distancing directives, by them in their business establishments.
Police said the investigation into the matter is on and will take up more such cases if the social distancing norms are violated by shopkeepers.

The shops against whom the cases have so far been taken up are some of the most reputed grocery shops and readymade garment shops of Dhubri market.
These shops are, Perfect Choice Cloth Store, M Store Fashion, Kamal Bastralay, Mihir Fashion, Rajindra Umbrella Store, Rupayan Cloth Store, M Plaza, Nahata Quality Store, Nilu Store (Nuniyapatty) and Akansha Grocery Store, as informed by police.
“Proprietors of shops are requested to follow the following not just to avoid lawful action against them but also to show their individual social responsibility towards society in this Covid-19 pandemic scenario,” police urged.
Dhubri Police have further requested to all shopkeepers to strictly observe social distancing both inside and outside the shops.
The police have also asked the shopkeepers to keep sanitizers and not to sell any item to those without masks.
