A special train from Mumbai, ferrying 1,408 stranded residents of Manipur due to the nationwide COVID-19 lockdown reached Jiribam station on Monday.
This was stated in an official statement issued on Tuesday morning in Imphal.
The train arrived at Jiribam, the State’s only railway station located about 220 km west of Imphal around 1:56 pm.
On their arrival at the Jiribam Railway Station, all the returnees travelling in the special train from Mumbai were screened by the concerned authorities.

Among the returnees 580 residents (including 15 babies) of Ukhrul and Noney districts, 237 (including three babies) from Churachandpur district, 75 residents of Pherzawl district, 22 (including two babies) of Tengnoupal and Chandel District left Jiribam for their respective districts in the State Transport Department buses.
Prior to departure they underwent necessary screening process by the authorities under the supervision of the Jiribam district administration, a DIPR report said.
They will remain in isolation at community quarantine centres for 14 days.
The State Transport Department buses also transported 42 residents of Thoubal and Kakching districts, 120 (including five babies) of Kangpokpi and Senapati districts, 29 residents of Bishnupur district and two of Tamenglong district to their respective districts from Jiribam railway station.
Around 62 residents (including a baby) of Imphal East district and 42 (including a baby) of Imphal West district too boarded the State Transport buses leaving the railway station for their respective districts, the report added.
With the arrival of special train on Monday, so far as many as 11 special trains carrying more than 10,000 stranded people of the State have arrived at Jiribam railway station since May 13, an informed source claimed.
Several people of the State are also returning hiring buses and ambulances through Mao and Jiribam entry gates in the State.
