The Kamrup Metro district administration has urged the people of the district to get ready to face the super cyclonic storm ‘Amphan’ which will hit the Northeast on May 21.
After Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued warning that super cyclonic storm ‘Amphan’ would hit Northeast including Assam on May 21, the Assam government also issued a high alert.
The appeal from the Kamrup Metro district administration comes after Assam chief secretary issued an urgent order to all commissioners of divisions, CEO of Assam State Disaster Authority (ASDMA), and all deputy commissioners regarding the IMD warning.

IMD on Tuesday said there will be light to moderate rainfall in most of the places in Assam and Meghalaya while heavy to very heavy falls to affect a few places over the western districts of Assam and Meghalaya on May 21.
The cyclone will also affect Sikkim on May 21 as per the IMD warning.
A notification issued on Wednesday, the CEO and additional DC of Kamrup Metro said: “Information has been received from the Meteorological Department that the Cyclone “AMPHAN” may hit Karnrup Metropolitan District at any moment from now.”
Stating that there is a “strong likelihood of a widespread effect” of the cyclone, the notification said “all the heads of line departments may keep their officials and equipments ready to tackle any situation that may arise during and after the Cyclone”.
“People of the district are also requested to keep themselves ready to face the Cyclone and to be careful in dealing with the situation,” said the notification.
All emergency requirements may be checked immediately and may be arranged accordingly, it added.
The Assam Power Distribution Company Ltd (APDCL), forest, telecom services, fire & emergency services (SDRF) and PWD (building & roads) have been asked to ensure 24X7 readiness of their staff and machineries to deal with the immediate requirements.
