Tripura governor Ramesh Bais

After the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) in Assam, the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) is all set to go under Governor’s rule after May 17, 2020.

The validity of the TTAADC will expire on May 17.

The polls to TTAADC have been postponed indefinitely due to the nationwide lockdown imposed in view of COVID19 pandemic, officials said.

The 30-member TTAADC is currently under the rule of Left Front.

The chief executive member (CEM) of TTAADC, Radha Charan Debbarma, said though there is a provision in the Constitution to keep the existing elected executive body for one more year in an emergency situation, but they would not request the Governor or the BJP-led government to do so.

The Tripura Cabinet has allowed the state’s Governor to take charge of the TTAADC.

Tripura law and education minister Ratan Lal Nath said the state government has decided to transfer the ruling authority of TTAADC to the Governor.

“The Executive Committee of Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council will be dissolved and the Governor Ramesh Bais will take the charge of the Council until the next election to the Council,” said minister Nath.
