Mukul Dhar, a 60-year-old cancer patient from Tripura, died in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday night while he was returning from Chennai to Agartala in an ambulance.
Family members informed that Dhar and his family were forced to travel by road in an ambulance after they got stranded in Chennai due to the nationwide lockdown called to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The family was hopeful that the lockdown would be lifted on April 14 and they would be able to return to their village in Dhalai district of Tripura.
However, due to the extension of the lockdown till May 3 the family found it difficult to stay in Chennai and hence decided to take the long way back in an ambulance.
Reportedly, a number of patients from Tripura have previously returned to Tripura from Chennai in ambulances by spending lakhs of rupees.
Dhar’s body was brought to his village on late Monday night
The family had paid Rs 2 lakh for the ambulance service.
