The prices of petrol and diesel will be more costly in Nagaland as the state government has decided to levy COVID19 cess on petroleum products.
In a notification, issued on Tuesday by additional chief secretary and finance commissioner Sentiyanger Imchen said diesel price in the state has been increased by Rs 5 per litre and petrol and other motor spirits by Rs 6 per litre as COVID19 cess is being levied with effect from Tuesday.

In the notification Imchen said: “In exercise of powers conferred by sub-section 3 of section 3A of the Nagaland (Sales of Petroleum and Petroleum Products including Motor Spirit and Lubricants) Taxation Act, 1967 (as amended), the Governor of Nagaland is pleased to notify that in addition to existing rate of tax and cess, the COVID-19 Cess shall be levied against Entry Serial Number 3 & 4 of Schedule II of the Act”.
“This notification shall come into force with effect from the midnight of 28th April 2020,” it added.
In another development, Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio launched 10 ambulances acquired by the state government at Dimapur district hospital on Tuesday.

Principal secretary (home) Abhijit Sinha said all the district hospitals in the state have been advised to continue delivery of selected services such as OPD and other daycare services till COVID19 related patients are admitted to the hospitals.
However, the hospitals were asked install adequate barriers to prevent intermingling of patients and to avoid overcrowding.
