Arunachal Pradesh Capital Complex deputy commissioner Komkar Dulom on Monday said the district administration is exploring all possibilities to ensure the smooth supply of locally grown vegetables to the denizens of the capital.
“The department of fisheries is engaged in selling fresh fish with the support of local fish farmers. Many vehicle permits have been issued for bringing local vegetables from Seppa, Sagalee and Yachuli/ Yazali areas through APMC,” the DC said in a statement.
Dulom said having a population of 1.7 lakh in the capital, it becomes challenging to cater to the need of every individual.
He, however, assured that the administration is trying its best.
“The local supply arranged by APMC is not sufficient to cater to all. Additional supply is being mobilized for outside state to stabilize the price hike,” he said.
The deputy commissioner said around 40 per cent of the capital’s total population is non-Arunachalees who may not be able to survive completely on local vegetables therefore it becomes necessary to import vegetables from outside.
“We have, however, stopped the import of vegetables from red and orange zone areas and instructions have also been passed to allow vegetables only from places like Gohpur, Biswanath Charali, Sonitpur and other foothill areas which do not fall under such zones,” the deputy commissioner said while adding that the entry of vegetables from Harmutty has been suspended until further order.
Dulom has further sought the cooperation of all during the ongoing phase of lockdown.
“The war against Covid-19 can only be won through the support and cooperation of every individual. This critical period has also taught the locals to be self- reliant and to grow vegetables locally,” said the deputy commissioner.
