Meghalaya government has decided to allow opening of grocery shops and essential commodities for four days in a week from Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 4 pm.
The wholesale shops for picking up of essential commodities will be allowed to remain open for three days in a week from Friday to Sunday.

“This is being done to ensure that there is more timing given to the people so that they can buy essential items without overcrowding,” Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma said.
The state government also informed through the food & civil supplies department that under the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and Non-NFSA, distribution of foodgrains for April-May quotas has started.
“Free foodgrains under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana for the month of April have been lifted from the FCI and are ready for distribution,” the chief minister said adding that 1000 MT rice under the open-market sale scheme is being distributed.

Meanwhile, Meghalaya food & civil supply minister James Sangma on Friday made a surprise visit to one of the warehouses at Them Iew Mawlong.
In the warehouse 2,312.09 quintals of foodgrains out of 27,116 quintals meant for East Khasi Hills from FCI’s Open Market Sales Scheme (OMSS) have arrived and is ready to be lifted for the open market.
“I made a surprise visit to one of the Warehouses at Them Iew Mawlong where 2312.09 quintals out of 27,116 of food grains meant for East Khasi Hills from FCI’s Open Market Sales Scheme (OMSS) has arrived and is ready to be lifted for the Open market,” Minister Sangma tweeted.
