Non-release of salaries by the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council for the last eleven months has put the lives of its employees in difficult conditions. The situation has come to such a pass that a fourth grade employee namely Putul Giri had committed suicide earlier in the month of April. Many students who are studying outside the district as well as the state have to return home in the midst of their studies as their parents are now unable to bear the educational expenditure due to non-release of salaries.
On Wednesday, the additional district primary education officer of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Prasanna Hasnu has tendered his resignation. Hasnu was the president of Employees Association of the Council. He incurred the wrath of the authorities for taking up the issue of non-payment of salaries to the employees for several months and was placed under suspension. It may be mentioned here that the Autonomous Council has failed to release the salaries of its employees for the last eleven months due to paucity of funds. Council’s Principal Secretary (Normal) Mukut Kemprai informed NE NOW that he had forwarded Hasnu’s resignation letter to the CEM of the Council. He, however, tried to downplay the issue saying that such type of situation was not a new phenomenon.
