The Bodoland University vice chancellor, professors and non-teaching staff donated Rs 3, 89,823 to Assam Arogya Nidhi in the fight against COVID-19 in the state.

Talking to reporters, Prof Laishram Ladu Singh, vice chancellor of the Bodoland University said the University employees have contributed one day salary to Assam Arogya Nidhi amounting to a sum of Rs 3, 89,823.00 as donation to State Government to fight against the outbreak of COVID-19.

At the same, the vice chancellor has also generously donated Rs one lakh from his personal capacity to Assam Arogya Nidhi.

In the days to come, BU shall contribute further towards the society, if the situation arises, he said.

He also said apart from this, Bodoland University Residents’ Welfare Association, Debergaon, Kokrajhar has distributed free groceries to the families of neighbouring villages, namely, New Debargaon and New Tilapara.

Each of the villages has 41 registered families.

In this connection, five kg rice, one kg musur dal, one kg potato, one litre mustard oil and half kilogram onion were distributed to each of the families.

In this hour of hardship during national lockdown, the distribution of essential groceries was a token of humane help from the residencts of BU Campus, Debargaon, Kokrajhar.

He also said, “We have been extending our help to nearby villages by distrubuting food items to them and to celebrate Bwisagu in thier respectives home without any crisis during 21 days lockdown.
