Popular cement brand Dalmia Cement on Friday donated Rs 25 lakhs to Assam Arogya Nidhi to combat COVID-19.
The company had also contributed Rs 50 lakhs to the Meghalaya Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to support the government in tackling the coronavirus pandemic.
Assam finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that a total of 31, 377 people had contributed Rs 70.96 crore to the Assam Arogya Nidhi till Thursday.
Sarma on Friday contributed an amount of Rs 1 lakh towards PM-CARES fund and Rs 50000 towards Assam Arogya Nidhi from his own salary.
“Every drop counts! I have donated Rs 1 Lakh towards #PMCaresFund & Rs 50,000 in Assam Arogya Nidhi from my salary of March 2020. Each one of us, as per our capacities, should join this campaign and contribute towards tackling #COVID pandemic. This is going to be a long battle,” Sarma tweeted.
The total number of coronavirus cases in the state is 29 out of which one lost his life on Friday.
Among the 29 cases detected in Assam, 28 victims have travel history of the religious congregation of Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin Markaz in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Assam government on Friday declared the Athgaon Kabristan Masjid in Guwahati a COVID-19 containment zone.
The decision was taken after three positive cases in the state were linked to a meeting held at the mosque on March 12.
