Five COVID-19 recovered persons have been hired as volunteers by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation to work at a care centre for asymptomatic COVID-19 patients.
As per reports, the initiative has been taken by the civic body as patients recovering from coronavirus are much likely to have developed immunity to the virus and their chances of getting infected are much less.
The Ahmedabad civic body has set up the care centre as a separate facility for asymptomatic coronavirus patients in the age group of 18 to 60 years who do not suffer from any other health conditions and have decided to leave hospital beds for patients with health complications and those who require urgent medical care.
Among the seven patients who have recovered from the coronavirus infection, five of them had agreed to work as volunteers at the care centre.
Ahmedabad reported 243 coronavirus cases and 10 deaths till Saturday.
Meanwhile, the death toll due to COVID-19 in India rose to 273 and the number of cases surged to 8,356, according to the Union Health Ministry.
The Union Health Ministry has also recently asked all States and Union Territories to make ENT specialists and resident doctors collect samples for COVID-19 testing.
In a letter addressed to all chief secretaries and principal secretaries (health), the ministry also said that there is an urgent need of hiring of trained and qualified personnel to collect the samples soon in order to curb the massive outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the country
