Manipur police on Tuesday said that a doctor was recently arrested for fleeing from a quarantine centre.
The doctor who works in Imphal’s Peace Hospital and Research Institute (PHRI) had treated a person who had attended the religious conglomeration of Tablighi Jamaat at Nizamuddin in Delhi.
After the person was tested positive for COVID-19, the staff of PHRI was asked to go for quarantine at a government quarantine centre in Imphal.
However, when a team led by the State Nodal Officer (Quarantine) went for physical inspection of the people in the quarantine centre, they found that a doctor was missing from there.
The officials later lodged a complaint against the doctor at the Porompat police station.
The police arrested the doctor from his Kshetrigao residence on Monday evening.
The doctor was later sent back to the quarantine centre again.
The second COVID-19 positive case in Manipur was detected on April 2.
Manipur’s first COVID-19 case was tested for the second time on Monday and found negative.
The patient is likely to be discharged soon, according to official sources.
The information was shared by the Director of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Dr Th Bhimo in Imphal on Monday.
The patient who was treated as per the guidelines laid down by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) is likely to be discharged soon.
