Seeking probe into the mysterious death of a Meghalaya youth in Uttar Pradesh (UP), Meghalaya chief secretary MS Rao has written to his UP counterpart urging him to investigate into the case.

The youth, who has been identified as Aldrin Lyngdoh, worked at Sikandra Kargil Food Court Restaurant in Agra.

Prior to his death on March 30 night in Agra, the youth on a social media had mentioned the name of his owner, Seema Chaudhary, who had allegedly terminated him from work.

In the letter to UP chief secretary Rajendra Kumar Tiwari on Tuesday, Rao said: “…we learnt that a youth from Meghalaya, namely (L) Aldrin Lyngdoh who was working at Sikandra Kargil Food Court Restaurant in Agra, Uttar Pradesh committed suicide on the 30th (night) March, 2020 in Agra.”

“In his social media post which was circulated online, the deceased had mentioned the name of owner, Smti. Seema Chaudhary who had terminated him from work,” Meghalaya chief secretary Rao said.

This is “a violation of the Government Order No 40-3/2020-DM-I (A) dated New Delhi, 29th March 2020 issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs,” the letter said.

Requesting that the matter be “investigated”, the Meghalaya chief secretary said if the matter is “found true”, necessary action be taken against the concerned employer (Seema Chaudhary) as per the provisions of law.

“I will also request you to kindly look into the welfare of students and other workers from Meghalaya who are stranded in your state,” the Meghalaya chief secretary stated in his letter.

He also requested UP chief secretary Tiwari to make arrangements for transporting the body of the deceased to the Meghalaya House at Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam Road in New Delhi.

He said S. Marak, additional resident commissioner, Meghalaya, will coordinate with the district magistrate in Agra in this regard.
