Following the 21-day nationwide lockdown call, a village in Tripura has decided to lock the entrance of the village to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The villagers of Purba Chandpur village under Hezamara RD Block in Mohanpur sub-division of West Tripura district has established a check gate at the entrance of the village preventing the entry and exit of people.
The village, which is primarily a tribal-dominated village, is around 50 kilometres North of Agartala and nearly 400 families live in the village.
The entry of outsiders is completely banned into the village and if a villager goes out for some work, he needs to sanitize himself first and then only he is allowed to enter the village.
The villagers have put up a water drum and soap at the gate for people to wash their hands before entering.
On special circumstances, if an outsider has to be allowed to enter the village then he needs to take special permission from the village chief.
This gesture of the villagers supporting the nationwide lockdown call has been widely admired by the local district administration.
