Union home minister Amit Shah on Thursday said that no documents will be required for the National Population Register (NPR).
He was replying to a query of Kapil Sibal in which he asked as to what happens when the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) is coupled with the NPR.
Shah said that there will be no doubtful citizen marking and no questions will be asked if one doesn’t want to give certain information.
“It is said that documents will be asked for under NPR, but let me tell you all, no documents will be asked for under the NPR,” Shah said.
He further said that no documents were asked under NPR earlier also and it will be the same this time as well.
“People are free to provide whatever information they want to give and we have clarified this through press release earlier,” Shah reiterated.
“I repeat it once again today that under NPR no documents will be required,” Shah further said.
“No one needs to be scared of NPR,” the home minister added.
