Kamargaon College won the final of the 16th Captain Jintu Gogoi memorial football tournament defeating Dao Division by 3-1 via penalty shootout.

The match was held at Polo ground in Dibrugarh on Sunday.

A total of 24 football teams from upper Assam participated in the tournament.

Since 2004, the Army has been hosting this tournament in Dibrugarh in memory of Kargil War hero Jintu Gogoi.

The 28-year-old young Army Captain of 17 Garhwal Rifles sacrificed his life while fighting Pakistani intruders at Juber Hills in Batalik sub-sector on June 30, 1999.

The closing ceremony of the 16th Captain Jintu Gogoi VrC Memorial Football Tournament witnessed the attendance of chief guest Brig Rohit Sehgal, Commander, Laipuli Brigade and Padma Shri Prahlad Chandra Tasa, who was present as special guest.

Parents of late Capt Jintu Gogoi, VrC honorary flying officer T R Gogoi and Shrimati Dulu Prabha also graced the occasion as special guests.

Nareshwar Sonowal, brother of chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal; Dibrugarh deputy commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha; additional SP Padmanabh Baruah and industrialist Mrigendra Jalan were also present.

During the closing ceremony, the audience was enthralled by the performances of various groups.

Army Pipe Band display, Army Dog Show and Bihu dance performance were other attractions during the tournament.
