Nagaland chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Wednesday launched the programme of the interactive digital smart board for smart classroom, organised by the state higher education department at Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma.
Speaking on the occasion, Neiphiu Rio said Nagaland has been recognised as a top state in the national e-governance service delivery assessment (NeSDA) in the national e-governance conference in Mumbai recently.

According to the NeSDA report, Nagaland topped the list among the northeastern and hill states of India with an overall score of 0.47.
Assam came second with 0.28 points while Manipur stood third with a score of 0.23, he said.
He said the initiative of the higher education department to introduce digital smart boards and smart classrooms in colleges in the state is a step in the right direction that will make learning more interactive and engaging.

“The use of simple tools can be used by the teachers and the students to make learning joyful and interesting and the teachers will be able to deliver technology-enabled dynamic and interactive lessons in the classroom,” said chief minister Neiphiu Rio.
Pointing out that there are several benefits of using interactive boards in the classrooms, he said they will have a positive impact on both the students and the teachers.
The interactive boards make review or revision of lessons more convenient and it will be easier for the teachers to structure lessons.
These boards will also allow differently-abled students to learn better, provide convenience and flexibility in learning.
The use of smart boards and smart classrooms results in savings on teaching costs and helps in cutting down the expenditure on teaching materials and aids.
They also have the potential of enabling live, distance communication learning
Rio appreciated the efforts of higher and technical education minister Temjen Imna Along and all those associated with the project for making the dream of technology-enabled education a reality in the classrooms.
He said it will go a long way in improving the quality of education in the state.
Chief minister Neiphiu Rio hoped that the teachers and the students would make maximum use of this facility and make learning more modern.
Rio also said along with the introduction of technology in governance, a geo-tagging has been enabled in schools and data with regard to the deployment of teachers in various schools has been made public on a geospatial platform to ensure that the teachers actually teach in the schools.
Minister Along said Nagaland is the first state in the Northeast to take such initiative for the students.
Through these smart classrooms not only will the students and the teachers interact better but they also enrich the students with new kinds of knowledge and make them smarter.
Additional director and head of the department, higher education department, Apeni Lotha, said the launch of the interactive smart board for the smart classroom is to enhance the quality of education between the academic years 2020-2030.
She said this initiative was taken not only to promote the use of technology but also to promote global competitiveness amongst students of Nagaland.
Smartboards for smart classrooms are important for the education revolution, she added.
