Assam Rifles troops on Saturday seized contraband drugs worth Rs 1.5 crore at Tengnoupal check post near Sita Road Junction in Manipur.

During operation, a team of Assam Rifles personnel under the Headquarters of the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) was able to seize a consignment of WIY tablets weighing 5.062 kilograms.

The seizure was made during a routine checking of vehicles at the Tengnoupal check post.

In connection with the seizure, the Assam Rifles apprehended three persons including the driver of Maruti Eeco van and two female co-passengers who were travelling in the vehicle along with the contraband drugs.

“During a routine checking of the vehicles, at around 3.15 pm, troops of Assam Rifles stopped a Grey colour Maruti Eeco Van (MN01-AG 6087) which was driven by one Paogougin Haolai of Senapati,” the Assam Rifles (South) PRO said.

The co-passengers were identified as 37-year-old Hatneineng Lhouvum (37) of Senapati and 33-year-old Hoikhohat Khongsai (33) of Sadar Hills, the Assam Rifles PRO added.

“On carrying out a thorough check of the vehicle, suspected WIY tablets approximately 5.062 kilograms worth Rs 1.5 crore in the international market value was recovered from the rear seat of the vehicle,” the Assam Rifles (South) PRO informed.

After the checking, the consignment of contraband drugs was seized by the Assam Rifles troops and apprehended the three persons for carrying the contraband drugs.

The apprehended persons along with the recovered items have been handed over to Tengnoupal police station for further investigation, the Assam Rifles (South) stated.

On February 19-20, 2020, the troops of Moreh and Tengnoupal Battalions of Assam Rifles under the aegis of Headquarters, Inspector General of Assam Rifles (South) had claimed to have recovered contraband drugs worth Rs 1.22 crore and Rs 1.31 crore in two separate incidents.
