Two Indian Army jawans rescued a woman from drowning in a river in lower Assam’s Barpeta district on Sunday.
On being informed that a woman jumped into a river from a bridge near the Patbausi village in Barpeta district on Sunday, Subedar Ram and Havildar Ashok Bhakar of the Jat Regiment rushed to the spot.
Without wasting any time they jumped into the river and within a short period rescued the woman who struggled for life.
The incident was first spotted by a local resident who immediately sought the help of the Army men and they also started rescue operation responding to the call.
An eyewitness told Northeast Now, “A woman jumped from the bridge and we immediately alerted the army camp.”
“The Army soldiers immediately rushed to the spot, started the rescue operation and saved the life of the woman. There were many villagers who saw the woman in the river but no one tried to rescue her,” the eyewitness added.
Later, a video of the jawans rescuing the lady was shared which went viral.
The people of the area have lauded their dedication, bravery, and presence of mind.
It may be mentioned that on January 14, two civilians were rescued by Army personnel after a snow slide hit them in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials said two civilians, Tariq Iqbal and Zahoor Ahmed Khan, both residents of Lacchipura village, were on the road from Lachhipura to Bijhama village at around 7:30 am on Tuesday when a snow slide hit them.
