A contingent comprising 120 NCC cadets called on Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan in Guwahati on Tuesday.
The contingent led by contingent Cdr Col Jitender Singh representing all the north-eastern states participated in the Republic Day parade in New Delhi.
Congratulating each member of the contingent, Governor Prof Mukhi hailed the nationalistic spirit of the members.
Prof Mukhi said their display of patriotic fervour will help in materializing the motto ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’.
Sharing his experiences with the contingent, the Governor elucidated the government’s vision for developing the State and elaborated on the important thrust areas.
He informed the delegates about the inherent strength of the state viz its natural resources, human capital and rich cultural heritage.
The Governor said he was very happy to be with them.
He said that the NCC has a very important role to play in the national development of youth, who are the future of the nation.
He also said being into NCC, gives one the chance to inculcate a spirit of adventure, develops leadership qualities.
He said it also enables cadets to discover their own capabilities by overcoming mental and physical challenges, giving them a feeling of self-confidence and sense of achievement.
It may be mentioned that the NER directorate stood first in the PM’s rally, Guard of Honour, National Integration awareness presentation and the Flag Area.
The 120 NCC cadets representing the NER directorate are the chosen few who overcame a stiff competition amongst 95000 cadets.
Of the contingent, 74 belong to Assam, 13 from Nagaland, nine from Manipur, 14 from Meghalaya, six from Mizoram and four from Tripura.
The Governor felicitated all the cadets with the traditional gamocha and wished them luck for all their future endeavours.
The group led by Major General Bipin Bakshi briefed about the achievements of the RDC cadets to the Governor.
