Militant outfit Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) has called a 24-hour strike in Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Saturday.
The bandh has been called to commemorate ‘Dimasa Martyrs Day’ where Probanta Hakmaosa and Mithun Dibragede were killed in a police firing on January 25, 2018 while protesting against the Naga accord at Maibang railway station in Dima Hasao.
This was stated in a press statement issue by its information and publicity secretary Ringsmai Dimasa on Friday.
The DNLA said the organization opposes setting of NRC detention camp in Dima Hasao, saying Dima Hasao is not a dumping ground and need educational institution instead of detention camp.
The outfit also said it opposes the Citizenship Amendment Act and implementation of Panchayati Raj in sixth schedule area that is, Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong.
“The Panchayati Raj will abolish the existing traditional village council system of tribals and would threaten the identity and tradition of the tribal communities,” the release added.
The DNLA which announced its formation in early part of April 2019 amid Lok Sabha election called 36 hours bandh on the poll day in the hills districts.
However, it had no impact on voters’ turnout as maximum numbers of voters cast their votes in every polling stations.
A case was registered at Haflong Police Station with C/no. 33/19 under 120(B)/121/ 122/ 171 (C)/ 506 IPC related to the bandh.
Altogether 17 linkmen/cadres of DNLA have been arrested from Dima Hasao, Karbi Anglong and Cachar districts including wife of an active cadre, while one cadre of the militant outfit surrendered before police.
